On International Day for the Girl Child
A DREAM
She suddenly remembered that she had forgotten to buy sanitary pads. It was 1 in the night. She hesitated a bit and then went out. The nearby store was closed. She started walking as there was no transportation to commute. After a 10minutes walk she found a medicine shop. It was a dimly lit, shabby, small one with only one person inside. She bought two packs of sanitary pads and returned back. While returning she saw a group of men fighting with each other. Chills ran down through her spine. She knew the worst could happen. She decided to take the longer route and started walking fast. Fortunately, this side was deserted. She came back to her flat and finished the packing. Her first solo hiking trip to her dream destination starts tomorrow. Their flight to the foothills is scheduled at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. This was her dream. She always had a fascination for hiking and mountains. She always felt mountains used to call her. It was her childhood dream which is going to come real tomorrow. After all the packaging, with a sheer amount of excitement she went to sleep. The next morning she woke up. There were no packaging, no suitcases, nothing. She was not in her flat, she was in a dull room. All the interior decoration was vanished, the cool dresses were not in sight. She was about to freak out when it suddenly hit her. It was a dream from last night.
October 11 is celebrated as the International Day of the Girl Child to address girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world. This day is celebrated to create awareness among the people regarding the drawbacks a girl faces. Can a girl go out alone at night to buy something important? Can a girl has that freedom to speak out her mind without getting judged? Can a girl be brought up as a human being? Can a girl be not taken an a bad omen and raised with full love and care?
