All Over Coffee- A Short Story
The smell of coffee entranced me. I walked longingly towards the nearest Starbucks, my feet dragging themselves.
The thought, the smell, the happiness of coffee after such an exhausting day was enough to bring a smile to my face. The entire day was completely out of it. From the boss’ crappy mood to handling the not-so-able working interns, my day had turned to what boss had been feeling at the beginning. Crappy.
I was pulled out of this daze by none other than the bickering going on in front of me in the line that led to my coffee. It was not such a hatred bickering, instead it was a cute one as it was filled with love and adoration. It was one of those who loved who more kinda moments and I just wanted to squeeze the life out of their cheeks. Don’t get me wrong, it was not because they were cute or something. It was because what they had, wouldn’t last. It wouldn’t last because one of them would surely disappoint the other and the poof! There goes the unconditional love.
I shook my head and sighed. At last it was my turn. I ordered my coffee just the way I like it and looked down to take out my purse from the bag to pay and can you guess who came to visit me? My clumsy self! Shocked? Well you wouldn’t be if you knew me well but yes, I’m clumsy. My purse fell down and all my money spilled out.
“Goddamnit.” I muttered under my breath and knelt down to pick up everything. My goal was to pick up everything quickly, pay the attendant and run towards the far end of the coffee shop to wallow in embarrassment. However, something happened. Something I never thought would.
At first, it was just our hands that touched, yet, a spark went through. I gasped in surprise. I looked up to see the most wonderful brown eyes I had ever seen and a face that most girls would definitely call handsome. Mistakenly again our hands touched and jolt of electricity sprang me into motion.
“It happens.” He whispered in my ear and looked me in the eye. And that is when the whole world seemed to stop.
That was five years before. Now we are happily married, regularly visiting the Starbucks that had sealed our fate. After all, it all happened over a cup of coffee.
