Dark – An explosion of mystery
Television series have taken a leap into the world of web . The improvement in content and cinematography over the last few years has been commendable. Science fiction is being revolutionized in ways that stuns the human mind of possibilities about the future of civilization . A popular German series on Netflix - Dark , has completely taken over the genre of science fiction and moulded the series into a thrilling journey of Time Travel through a movement across time lines – 1921, 1954 , 1986 and 2019. An experience like nothing before it takes us down the rabbit hole of Time , into spaces of dark matter and the black hole and mysteries of the universe that attempt to unfold.
Dark , begins in a wooden cabin full of pictures interconnected by threads and a suicide. The breath-taking theme song Goodbye courtesy Apparata , spins the mind completely ! It takes one into the specific scenes of the season , bound to send shivers down your spine. The concept of Time Travel is elucidated in this season , with a Man from the Future entering the space of present (2019) , a boy from present travelling into the past (1986) and the town of Winden concealed amidst the thick dark forests and a cave which serves as the passage between the different time zones. Using the concept of Ariadne’s thread – a logical sequence to deduce as well as a reference to the Greek goddess of Labyrinth – Ariadne. This passing image of Martha delivering her monologue at the school play , is a deliberate move to show the unfolding of events , yet the futile efforts of man to reach inconclusive conclusions. The story begins when Mikkel , the son of an officer (Ulrich Nielson) goes missing in the forest and a body is found with the eyes rotten and the ear canals destroyed. The nuclear power plant , the secret door and the time machine .

The creation of loop is based on Nietzsche’s theory of Eternal Recurrence where events keep recurring over a finite span of time infinitely.
To give away the story is to be disloyal to the series. Herein , I leave the reader’s to discover more about Dark about what really the future holds - “the question is not how , the question is when ?” We are in the grips of Time and moments should always be cherished for you never know when Time looms in on you and your thread of life is cut .
Is it a final Goodbye or the end of one of the many cycles that will return ?
