INTERNATIONAL ANTI-CORRUPTION DAY
“Corruption is a cancer, a cancer that eats away at a citizen’s faith in democracy, diminishes the instinct for innovation and creativity.”
— Joe Biden, President of The United States in 2020
Corruption is much scarier than a horror film and much dangerous than a terrorist attack. It will not kill you from a point blank range but, will backstab and destroy your future. Corruption is defined as the abuse of entrusted power for private gain. It thrives in every field and in every situation, and the ongoing pandemic is no exception. Corruption crushes your hopes, career, health, education and business. It is a fungus that hampers the development of economy, society and the trust of the people. After the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, we are familiar with the term ‘Nepotism’. It is too a form of corruption as the favoured candidate is given the advantage where as the deserving candidate is deprived.
So to curb this social dilemma, the international anti-corruption day is observed on 9th December every year. This year 2020’s theme is “United against Corruption”. International anti-corruption day is used to raise awareness about the ill effects of corruption and how we can bring it to an end. The representatives of the government, business and civil society must work for the common good. Transparency is the first step to put a halt to corruption. Everyone around the world has to cooperate to put an end to this bane. International anti-corruption Day symbolizes that our mission towards an anti-corrupted government and society has still not been accomplished. It is high time that we all work together to lift this curse from the society.
