Is Good Really Worth It?
At Pen:
The Result of Being Good
Once upon a time there lived a grandfather with his three grandsons, William, Iven and
His youngest grandson, John. On the other hand, his brothers were cruel
And greedy. They were not so very fond of John. One day, their grandfather decided to get his
grandsons married. So he called them and said "Boys, I have decided to get all of you married"
said their grandfather. His grandsons replied, " We Shall do as you say grandfather but please guide us fast".
"We have a very special tradition to find our brides, we cut down a tree and note the direction in which it falls. We go to that particular direction to find our brides, but before you cut down a tree, you should plant one in our garden and promise me to take good care of it" said their grandfather. They agreed and did as they were told. William's tree fell in the North direction, Iven's tree fell in the West direction and thus they both started their journey and found their brides. But John's tree fell towards the South direction in which there were nothing but forests present. Everyone laughed at him and mocked him "You seem to be quite unlucky John, we are sure your bride will have sharp teeth". John smiled and started his journey. He was unable to find even a human the jungle, and wondered how on earth would he ever find a bride in a jungle like that. But he did not give up. At last, he found a cottage and hence
decided to rest there for a while. So, he went inside the cottage but found it to be vacant. He looked
down to find a rabbit dressed in a tiny gown just like a human claiming itself to be the owner of the cottage. "What are you doing in this jungle, young man"? asked the rabbit. "Well, I came in this jungle to find a bride for myself, but it seems that even a human doesn't live here. The rabbit laughed and said "There are no humans living in this jungle so, why don't you take me as your bride". Hearing this, John laughed and said "But you are a rabbit"!!! The rabbit replied with a smile "Even though I am a rabbit, I will love you and be true to you". John hesitated for a moment but later agreed. Seeing that it was getting late John decided to live for his house but promised the rabbit that he would return and soon started his way back to his house. On arriving, his brothers once gain laughed at him. Later that day, his grandfather called all the three brothers and announced, " I am very happy that you all have found your brides however I want to put each of them to a test. Tell them to cook some food for me"!!! So, all the brides cooked for their grandfather-in-law however he accepted John's bride's food to be the best. He told his grandsons to bring their respective brides home. So, John went to the rabbit and told her to get ready to visit his house. She wore a pinkish gown and ordered her rabbit servants who lived wither her to get her a carriage. As she sat in her carriage she turned into a beautiful girl. John was surprised. The rabbit revealed that she actually was a princess but a witch was jealous of her beauty and hence turned her into a rabbit. John was delighted and realized that he indeed had found his ideal bride. They got married and lived happily ever after…
