An open letter to Gunjan Saxena
Dear Gunju,
I still remember the exhilaration on your face when you saluted your dad in the royal blue uniform- it was unadulterated. It was one of those endearing moments when little Gunju , who derived happiness from staring at the clouds carved a niche in the skies.
Right from doting on ice creams to dancing on bollywood songs, you made us fall in love with your childlike conviction. I’d love to share with you a quote which acts as a preamble to your story , it goes like – “When you really want something, the whole universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”. You verified this statement and proved that dreams do come 'true' with flying colours .
It was so comforting to see that when you were on the verge of giving up on your dreams, your father possessed the brilliant miracle of curing you at those times. He pushed you towards the skies while the world tried to tie your fate to the kitchen.
You’ve shown us that it is fine to fail sometimes .There are moments when failures stab directly in our enthusiasm. But we can actually knit miracles from what is in our hands. We can be the sparkling Midas of our own lives.
You’ve shown us that in an era when men was preconceived to excel at every front, a woman can be an expeditious flag-bearer of the same art with unmistakable determination in her eyes.
You’ve taught us that the test of a dreamer lies in the civility of her motive. As long as honesty lies in our motive, we don’t stand as a traitor to our country. You were a sole woman in a patriarchal world. You were a harbinger of change who redefined that a woman is not a misfit in a man’s world. You not only fought the enemies to safeguard our nation but also waged war against the overriding patriarchal mindset to mark your presence.
You left a dreamer in all of us while soaring high in the skies. You remind me of the five year old kid who stares at the planes while walking through the by-lanes of her house. And somewhere we understood that it only needs one strong wish for the universe to unleash its garden of possibilities before us.
Jai Hind
With love,
A compassionate dreamer.
