What does Christmas mean to you? Pt. I

I mean Christmas isn't that integral to our culture but every year my dad comes home with 3 Santa hats just before Christmas and that's how we know that it's magical because the smile on our faces were enormous. You see it was never about big celebrations, it was those little things. Our school would hold a small special assembly where the kids would sing carols and we seniors would just applaud no matter how out of tune it got. It was just good to see the kids putting so much effort and the cute Santa hats and reindeer hairbands just added to the effect. Not to forget the mini X-mas parties we used to have where we pretended the Coca Cola was red wine. Back at home, we'd get an enormous fruit cake and just waited to just dig right in !! The impatience is all I remember, it didn't matter how it tasted. Just me and my family, munching down one piece each while we're under blankets. Mind you, mother got very irritated at the leftover crumbs. Nothing spells Christmas more than Park St. celebration though. Kolkata at it's finest they say. Roaming around Park Street with friends, the roadside stalls, concerts at Allen Park and a tight packed crowd. The city looked magical with the added effect of those fairy lights. Oh, the happiest it has ever looked !! In that moment it feels hopeful, feels like a new beginning. Now that I think of it, Christmas has always been like this, it's the little things that makes it magical.
