She grasped his palms tightly. He hld back her arms even more firmly. They both feared of losing each other in the chaos, so he looked at her and pulled her up to make her sit comfortably on his shoulders. A big smile filled up her face. Sitting on her father’s shoulder, from a 6 feet height she watched the hustling crowd in front of her. It was her first and probably the last Christmas. She remembered the doctor had remarked that she was living her last few months . There was a hole in her heart but nothing could be done for that. That night her, father had cried a lot holding her mothers picture. She didn't understand whatever that was happening. The next day, her father had asked her about the story which she used to dream every night. She had replied with an elated face that she wanted to visit city during the Christmas. Once she had heard from one of her friends about the decorations and lightings. One of the streets of Kolkata dazzles up during the Christmas time. Her father had made up his mind that he would do anything to make her daughter happy. Being the only Christians in the small village, the poor girl was not fortunate enough to visit a church before. On 24th December 2019, they watched the city dancing on Christmas carols. They went to St. Paul’s Cathedral, they went to Park Street, they bought red hats, they had ice cream – her father made sure that the smile never leaves her daughter’s face. Whatever his small earnings allowed him to do, he did all of them. Their faces showed love wins all over the sorrow. At 12am sharp everyone celebrated, “ Merry Christmas!”
