|| What Christmas means to you ||

For me Christmas means a power packed day full of enjoyment. It includes gifts, cakes, treating my tongue with freshly baked pizza, strolling around ‘Nandan’ watching the theatres in the ‘Natyatsob’ and enjoying the open air shows, all while walking on the queen-like dressed roads of Esplanade. In short, spending a crazy amount of quality time with my parents which I seldom get to spend. Christmas is that time of the year when I literally wear myself to a shadow from all the fun I had all day. The Christmas tree with its sparkling fairy lights, the little ornaments and twinkling star at the top creates a wonderful, magical and mesmerizing atmosphere when we come home late that night.

My Christmas Eve starts with decorating the Christmas tree. The funny part is that I used to hang really long socks in order to get more gifts. My mother used to tell me, “Santa only gives gifts to well behaved children.” So, I thought to bribe Santa. I wrote a letter to Santa about all the achievements and good deeds I did throughout the year, and then attach a ‘little’ wish list of just fifty items. Next morning Santa customized the wish list according to his convenience and left the presents. Weirdly enough, I used to get more gifts when I stayed in my grandparent’s house. I think as Santa and my grandparents are old, maybe they have a secret language that they only can understand. For this pandemic I am worried that Santa will quarantine himself for two weeks and may shower me with very little gifts. But this year, I will not write any wish list. This year helped me realize that a lot of people are suffering. I would want to bring a smile on the faces of these distressed children. Christmas for me is just not a festival, but it’s a day to make an oath to help people and to become a Santa to these Children of God.
