The wind was blowing, making her a complete mess.

But she’s my mess, he thought to himself and smiled.

They were sitting on the park bench where they had first met. They met each other when they were 5 and she had just moved into the house next to his. She had worn her hair in pigtails and a strange coloured dress, making her stand out in the crowd. As soon as he saw her, something inside him clicked, something inside him made him feel whole. The then 5 year old couldn’t understand what it was but now he was sure that it was love at first sight.

He turned his head to look at her. He saw a child wanting to be cared for, a girl wanting to be loved and a woman wanting a partner who would treat her right. He saw in her courage, beauty, honesty, integrity, maturity, empathy, affection, openness, and so many other things that one generally looks for in a partner. He knew from the very first day that she was the one. She would always be the one, no matter how much time passed, and no matter how many people came between them. In his heart, she would always come first.

He took a deep breath. It was time. Time to do it finally. Trembling, he knelt down on one knee in front of her. He took her hand in his cold hands and clasped it tight. Their hands fit perfectly, as if it was made for each other.

He again took a deep breath and said, “Will you be mine forever?”
