New year right? What's new about this now? New friends, new clothes, new love, new law....what? Between 31st December and 1st January, is there any difference at all? The roadside beggar was still shaking due to the freezing winter breeze, the street dog came and sat beside him whereas the wealthy people were celebrating in the luxurious clubs. While returning from her NGO on the New Year Eve, she froze in the midway. She was almost broken with no savings, her parents were still coping with their daughter's broken marriage plan. Initially with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, her wedding was postponed but then the groom's family called it of because they got a better and reasonable "option". Well, marriage was never really important for her but her parents' happiness do matter to her. And that made her saying yes to a business deal or what the society calls - 'marriage'. While she was thinking all these, a car suddenly stopped by her side. The windows rolled down and one of the drunk boys passed a rude comment to her. She responded with frightening scream, which made the boys climb down from the car because apparently they thought she was scared. One of them tried to grab her by her hands, while the other tried to touch her abruptly. But they didn't know that she was a Karateka and she was a 2nd Dan Black Belt. She made the boys pay for their sins very badly. Two of them got a fractured elbow while the other two got some major blows in the eyeballs and nostrils. Her screams had made some of the nearby heads to turn and witness whatever happened, but no one took any actions. She went to the nearby police station and reported the whole scenario. The police verified with the nearby cctv cameras and tracked the boys' car. They assured her and bid her goodnight.
More than 1 in 3 women experienced sexual violence involving physical contact during her lifetime. Nearly 1 in 5 women have experienced completed or attempted to be raped during her lifetime. 1 in 3 female rape victims experienced it for the first time between 11-17 years old. 1 in 8 female rape victims reported that it occurred before age 10.
But, does it affect at all? All the feminism posts, debates on equality, protests against these violations - how much are we actually concerned about our society?
