At Pen:
On World Day Against Child Labour
Towards an educated future of the young and sparkling minds, Say NO to Child Labour.
According to the ILO-
The term “child labour”is often defined as work
that deprives children of their childhood, their
potential and their dignity, and that is harmful to
physical and mental development.
Tracing back to era of the Industrial Revolution, Children were made to work in gruesome conditions in factories with wages below 10 cents an hour for 14 days of inhuman labour. While we make a progression into the 21st century, we have not yet been successful in eradicating the issues of the same.
Recent global estimates based on data of UNICEF, the ILO and the World Bank indicate that 168 million children aged 5 to 17 are engaged in child labour. The staggering statistics demonstrates the deplorable condition of humanity. An enormous section of the children are forced to work in order to support their parents in their impoverished lives. Countries with a higher poverty rate are prey to this roaring issue. Eritrea, Somalia, Myanmar, Sudan and Congo rank among the highest in the index of countries where child labour prevalent. In India, 33 million children are engaged in the agricultural and industrial sector. Not only do they lack the proper means to receive wholistic education, their dire poverty binds them in shackles.
While the RTE ACT has been enforced to look into the issue of education of children and take measures against child labour. United Nations, CRY Foundation are among the top organizations working relentlessly to create an awareness and take measures to curb the widespread plague of child labour, on a global scale. On this day, let us unite together in our mission on creating the awareness regarding educating the 'Ignited Minds' of our future.
May the nations fight in unison to eradicate the issues that is like a shadow on a child's life.
Every Child Deserves A Happy Childhood, Every Child Deserves Education.
